From Milan to a Life Among the Waves on Shibumi: The Story of How We Taught Our 3 Children That Dreams Can Come True 2
Limiting costs remained a mantra wherever we had the possibility.
We requested homeschooling for our children and a year's leave of absence .
We had planned everything that could be planned: we would cross the Mediterranean and, once outside the Pillars of Hercules, we would reach the Canary Islands, then Cape Verde and from there cross over to Central America.
All by February 2021 .
So in October 2020 we cast off. So Capraia, Corsica, Sardinia, Balearics…
From Milan to a Life Among the Waves on Shibumi: The Story of How We Taught Our 3 Children That Dreams Can Come True 3
In January, the race against time began to catch the trade winds (the leading winds needed to cross the Atlantic) .
The winter storms, however, slowed us down considerably. So much so that we were forced to enter the port of Formentera .
It was supposed to be a stopover of a couple of days, in fact on the denmark telegram data morning of January 10, ready to leave again, we notified the port that we were about to leave.
“Shibumi isn’t going anywhere, the island is closed due to Covid until further notice.”
So the port of Formentera became our base for 8 months .
The plan to cross the Atlantic had been ruined, the months of waiting were running out and with them our dream was also coming to an end.
“Did we bet too much? Should we have kept our feet on the ground?”
Rebirth in the waves (and new family projects)
It couldn't end like this.
We started looking at what we had and not what we had lost .
Our story was becoming inspiring
