Online Desk: The cabinet has approved the proposal not to keep quotas for first and second class posts in government jobs. As a result, there will be no quota in first and second class government jobs, i.e. jobs from 9th to 13th grade. Appointments to these posts will be based on merit.
The approval was given at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday. Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam confirmed the matter to reporters after the meeting.
Shafiul Alam told reporters that as a result of the cabinet approval, there will be no more quotas for first and second class posts in government jobs. However, the existing quotas for third and fourth class posts will remain as before. A notification in this regard will be issued soon.
The secretaries' committee, headed by the cabinet secretary, country email list recommended withdrawing quotas for first and second class cadre and non-cadre posts in government jobs and maintaining job quotas for other third and fourth class posts. The secretaries' committee's recommendation was later handed over to the Prime Minister.
It is worth noting that until now, 56 percent of government job vacancies were reserved for various quotas. Of these, 30 percent were for children of freedom fighters, 10 percent for women, 10 percent for districts, 5 percent for ethnic minorities, and 1 percent for the disabled.

He made this statement in a speech before an election rally at Dhanmondi Square No. 32 in the capital on Tuesday afternoon.
Criticizing the BNP, Obaidul Quader said, "BNP is trying to fish in troubled waters by creating a movement like the quota movement and the movement of the young people. We must be careful about them."
He said, BNP is being repeatedly called upon to participate in the elections. We want to hold elections through a healthy competition. But they are saying, "It's about movement." If bombs, fires, terrorism and violence are spread in the name of movement like in 2014, then they (BNP) should also be given a proper answer by the people of the country.

Stating that BNP is trying to cover up its failure with various threats, the Awami League General Secretary said, "We have made it clear that we will not engage in conflict with BNP or other parties. We will not hold counter meetings. We will not hold counter-rallies. The people own the roads of Bangladesh. No one can occupy these roads, neither the government party nor the opposition party."
Quader said, "The character of BNP has not changed. They filed cases against us one after another while they were in government. They filed cases against Awami League leaders and activists. They filed a case against Sheikh Selim for the bomb attack at Mymensingh Cinema Hall. They filed a case against us for plate theft. We passed the election with dozens of cases on our shoulders."
The event was presided over by Dhaka 10th constituency MP Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapash and was also addressed by the party's Joint General Secretary Mahbub ul Alam Hanif. The party's Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr. Hasan Mahmud, Organizing Secretary Enamul Haque Shamim, Metropolitan Awami League leaders Morshed Kamal, Aktarul Islam and others were present.
After the rally, they distributed leaflets in several areas of Kalabagan and asked people to vote in boats.
